Dear SILVIA MARTA, Today marks the anniversary of one of the most horrific and painful days in the modern history of the Jewish people. A year ago this morning, at 6:29 AM, thousands of Palestinian terrorists infiltrated southern Israel in a coordinated attack orchestrated by Hamas, slaughtering 1,200 people in a brutal rampage of murder, rape, and pillage. Entire families, including infants and the elderly, were beheaded and burned alive. More than 4,000 rockets were fired at cities across Israel, creating widespread fear and chaos. It took the IDF three days to regain full control of the invaded communities, only to discover that more than 250 people had been kidnapped. Today, 101 are still held hostage in Gaza. Over the past year, millions of Israelis have faced immense challenges—grappling with grief, trauma, and destruction—while enduring ongoing conflict in Gaza and on the northern border with Lebanon, where Israel has faced relentless aggression from Hezbollah. Since October 7th, more than 15,000 rockets have been fired toward Israel from Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Iran, adding immense strain on the Israeli home front and defense systems.
The trauma for Israelis and Jews around the world, who view the State of Israel as the guardian of their safety, has been profound. Israel's existence has long been considered a guarantee that the horrors of the Holocaust will never be repeated. Yet, on October 7, ghastly images not seen since World War II ended eight decades ago were replicated and seared anew into the collective consciousness of the Jewish people.
In the initial days after the October 7th massacre, the world responded with compassion—leaders visited Israel, shared messages of support, and people across the globe showed their solidarity. But as Israel began to retaliate, things changed. When Israel took action to destroy Hamas and its terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, accusations of genocide arose. Jewish students were harassed, synagogues attacked, Jewish businesses vandalized, and antisemitism surged in ways that shocked many. Furthermore, widespread denial of the nature and scope of the events of October 7th and Israel's right to defend itself deeply hurt Jewish communities.
Throughout history, the Jewish people have often been the first targets of hatred and violence. But this hatred doesn’t stop with the Jews—it threatens the safety, freedom, and values of all people. When we stand up to protect Jewish communities, we are also safeguarding the core principles, values, and freedoms that define Western societies.
Today, many are asking what they can do to help. Many of you have been our allies over the last 12 months, working to expose the wave of antisemitism, standing in solidarity with Jewish communities under attack, and sharing the truth of what happened on October 7th.
We invite you, today more than ever, to stand with us, because we are one voice fighting one fight together. |
